Run: a poem

When you see your sin abounding,
And the light is far away;
When you see failures, astounding,
And have little faith to pray:
Then, run.
Run to the One who died for you,
To the One who bore your sin.
Run to the One who will renew,
And by His grace, start again.

When your books are stacked around you,
And your paper is due soon;
When all the information’s new,
And out there’s a midnight moon:
Then, run.
Run to the God who knows it all,
And holds you within His hands.
Remember nothing is too small,
For Him to note, understand.

When dishes are piled like Everest,
And you feel tired and broken;
When you’d rather crawl in your “nest”,
A wake when dawn is breakin’:
Then, run.
Run to the One who gives us strength,
And says He will never fail.
And trust that we will know, at length
Why we often feel so frail.

When you see folks living in sin
And you know it’s destruction;
When sorrow, longing boil within –
You want to share salvation:
Then, run.
Run to the King of everything,
Who turns hearts of stone to flesh.
Your everything, before Him fling,
And pray for power afresh.

When you are running in the rain,
And enjoying all the mud;
And then you fall with ankle sprain,
And feel like a little dud:
Then, run.
Run to the One who watches you,
And has a bigger reason.
Stand up, friend; it is nothing new –
It’s only for a season.

When at the end of time, you stand
Alone before the Father –
When you really just look like sand,
Full and awed by His power:
Then, run.
Run to the Cross where mercy meets,
The love of untold measure.
Run to Christ who for you pleads,
The mercy of the Father.

He has been defined as faithful.
He’s forever and won’t change.
So, my friend, be really cheerful:
He has a plan down the range.
And run.
Run to Jesus on every day.
Whatever comes, just rejoice.
Cling to Him, the truth, life and way,
Praise Him – with your strength and voice.
